How to use a toner + Why it's so important

Toners are definitely a forgotten skincare step in the majority of our skincare routines, however there is a reason why K-beauty lovers treasure toners. Read on to discover what makes them an essential beauty item to boost your radiance and make your skincare work harder for you... plus how to do toner the right way!

What's in a Good Toner?

Toners have come a far way since the days of stripping alcohol-based products that would leave skin feeling tight and dry. Toners were traditionally designed to be highly acidic and restore the skin to a natural “acid” balance after using overly foamy and extremely alkaline cleanser. Enter the “new world” of PH balanced cleansers and toners which preserve and protect the skin barrier without stripping the skin or requiring extreme alkaline or acid formulas to do their job. They do more than just remove excess makeup, they also work on hydrating the skin and infusing it antioxidant and anti-ageing nutrients.

Our No.2 Citrus Rhapsody Toner Mist and No.1 Belle Frais Cleansing Milk are PH balanced at approximately 5.3 which means they maintain the skin at its natural PH balance – it also means your prevent the accelerated ageing, skin hypersensitivity and dryness which result from skin microbiome that has been stripped and damaged from extremely acidic and alkaline product formulas.

Benefits of Toning the Skin

1. Increase absorption of anti-ageing and hydrating ingredients.

A toner is the answer to improving the absorption of the anti-ageing serums and lotions that you use religiously. If you can imagine your skin having the texture of a dry sponge, if you apply a thick lotion on it it makes sense that it won’t penetrate very deeply. By wetting the sponge or prepping your skin with a toner to open pores and dampen the skin, the cream will sink in more deeply and work to deliver actives deeper into the skin

2. Infuse the skin with antioxidants and anti-ageing nutrients.

Bilberry, Fig and Guava are just a few of the antioxidant rich botanicals in our No.2 Citrus Rhapsody Toner Mist. By protecting the skin from free radical damage and providing high levels of vitamin C, this fruit salad cocktail helps to achieve smooth and even toned skin.

3. Balance oil production without stripping the skin.

Whilst our No.2 Citrus Rhapsody Toner Mist does not provide harsh acids it does include anti-microbial botanicals to gently balance oil production and reduce a predisposition for breakouts. May Chang and Citrus Oils in the mist are mildly astringent and designed to clarify skin and refine pores.

4. Provide light weight hydration.

In addition to hydrating antioxidants, our toner mist contains glycerin which is a skin replenishing ingredient found naturally in the skin. It helps to trap and maintain skin moisture levels. Australian Desert Lime found in the mist also contains active ingredients known as glycosides which are hydrate the skin by holding onto water molecules.

5. Refresh and uplift.

Toners are the ultimate hand bag companion. If you love refreshing and energising essential oils you will love the citrus boosting spritz provided by our toner mist. If you are on the go, on an aeroplane or having an afternoon slump, May Chang, Lemon Aspen and Citrus oils work to invigorate and revitalise the skin and mind.
