This is why you need to double cleanse

You may have heard the term ‘double cleansing’ thrown around in the skincare world, yet wondered what exactly it means (aside from the obvious) and if it’s a ritual you should make part of your own beauty regime. At Edible Beauty Australia, we swear by a 2-step cleansing protocol, especially in the evening. Here’s why and how to do it the right way…

The Daily Grime

Over the course of a day, our skin is subjected to all manner of things which collect on it, coating the surface and potentially making their way deeper into the pores, where impurities and oil can build up and become clogging. From the make-up and pollution, to sweat and other airborne particles, our complexion can suffer if we don’t thoroughly cleanse these away in the evening, leading to breakouts and dullness.

When Once Isnt Enough

Considering all this, it makes sense why one cleanse might not be enough to really clean all the grit and grime from your skin. This is even more true if you are wearing makeup during the day. Often the first cleanse will work to sweep away more superficial products and impurities, yet it doesn’t get far into the pores, where clogging substances can remain. When you do a double cleanse and go for round two, your cleanser doesn’t have to fight against surface build-up, so it can get straight to business in ensuring your pores are gently purified too.

Oil & Cream Cleansers Are Essential

It’s important to note that the double cleanse method only works if you are using the right skincare products for it. If you practice this with regular foaming or conventional acne-treatment cleansers, you will quickly strip your skin of its natural oil balance, disrupting the moisture barrier. In response to the over drying, your body will product more sebum (oil) in the skin to try to compensate, resulting in too much oil and grease. This can become a vicious cycle that will leave your skin congested, sensitive and unhealthy.

When you use oils and milky cream-based cleansing products, you avoid this effect, by keeping the skin nourished whilst you wash it, providing the skin with the natural oils and hydration that it needs to stop producing excessive sebum which clogs pores.

The Edible Beauty Signature Double Cleanse Method

With all this in mind, we have developed a highly effective and luxurious ‘double cleanse’ method that you will revel in as part of your skincare routine.

Based on the scientific principal that like dissolves like, an oil cleanse is the perfect first step to emulsify and lift away makeup and daily grime. Step two is then a cream cleanse, which allows for removal of any remaining build up and to work deep into the pores for a thoroughly, yet gently cleansed and radiant complexion.

Step 1) Oil Cleanse
Massage 1-3 pumps of a natural oil cleanser onto dry skin using gentle circular motions allowing the oil to activate, effortlessly lifting makeup and impurities.
Use a damp & Eco Enchantress Makeup Remover Puff to remove makeup from the skin's surface, continuing to use gentle circular motions.  After completing the Oil Cleanse, flip the puff strap to use the softer bamboo side.

Step 2) Cream Cleanse
Apply 2 to 3 pumps of No.1 Belle Frais Cleansing Milk, gently massaging into the skin and lash line to loosen any remaining makeup. Thoroughly buff and cleanse the skin until fresh and clear. This coconut based creamy formula contains a low dose of salicylic acid (less than 2% which makes this product pregnancy safe) that works to unclog pores, reduce bacterial build up, prevent acne and blackheads, and even soften fine lines.
Once completed, thoroughly wash your makeup remover puff.
